SM Greenbag Campaign Levels Up Next Phase

This Earth Day, it's fitting news that SM Supermarket recently launched the next phase of its Greenbag Project which served as a highlight to its 25th anniversary celebration.
The Greenbag Project is SM Supermarket's pioneering environmental program. Their objective was to promote the recyclable bags through the My Own Bag (MOB) campaign which started back in 2007 in partnership with Unilever.
With the release of the new design, It aims to further reduce the use of plastics which now totals around 3.3 million plastic bags from adding up to the country’s waste problem since its launch in May of 2009.
“We want to do our part and encourage our shoppers to help save the world with us.  Our hope is to trigger a chain reaction and make the Greenbag our first step towards a sustainable future.” said SM Supermarket’s Hendrik Sy.
I like the new two-tone design in contrast to the old solid green and solid yellow green variant. This time, they combined the two colors with the second tone - light green color, on the straps.

I was also glad that they addressed the slipping base cardboard from the old design. The internal base of the green bag now has a slip-in fold so that the cardboard will not run (see image below).
It is made from 100% polypropylene (PP) material and is equivalent to two regular SM Supermarket Shopping bags. With an estimated lifespan of two years, it is recyclable, non-toxic, allergy free and non-reactive to human skin .

Thumbs up for the SM Greenbag!

They also had Bb. Pilipinas and Ms. Earth pageant winners walk the runway showcasing the new Greenbag design.
Have a fruitful Earth Day as each earthizen gives their share and effort in saving our one world and making it green!
